I spent a few days last week and this weekend sailing with my girlfriend and her father on his yacht, Josephine of Hoo. She's a Tumlaren (more info) - a 50 year old classic wooden yacht of Scandinavian design. She's simply beautiful to look at and sail. It's a privilege to sail her, especially when everyone you sail past waves and shouts "She's beautiful!".
We spent Wednesday night in the anchorage at Lindisfarne. I can't imagine a more beautiful place to anchor and the sense of history is just overwhelming. Behind me when I took this photo was the Lindisfarne Priory, an important centre of early Christianity. To the left, just out of frame, was Lindisfarne Castle. To the left of this image can be seen the Farne Islands - a seabird haven, the home of Saint Cuthbert for a time and a place of pilgrimage for medieval monks. To the right of the image is Bamburgh Castle, the focal point of many a fine landscape photograph.
The yacht is Josephine.
Regards the image, it is a composite of two stacked landscape images. In this case, the intention was not to blend different exposures (they both used exactly the same exposure), but to increase the imaging area and resolution of the final image. The technique has been called Vertorama by South African photographer Paul Bruins who specializes in the technique. You can read more about it in his Flickr post on the subject. The two source images can be seen under the filmstrip.

Love the big view. The clouds are beautiful and the small boat on the big sea is just awesome.
